Tarik Beshir

Accomplished vocalist and oud player, Tarik Beshir is an extraordinary musician. Having spent time learning the styles and techniques of late 19th century and early 20th century song from Ottoman Egypt, Tarik is one of just a handful who can faithfully recreate the sound of this renaissance period. Playing with maximum energy and creativity, the quality of his performances make him one of Oxford’s finest musicians of any genre.

One fifth of Middle Eastern musical ensemble Oxford Maqam, Tarik and the band have recently been featured on the BBC Arabic channel. Each year Maqam take on new projects exploring the boundaries of tradition in space and time across the Arabic sound world. Tarik is also a member of much loved Oxford band Brickwork Lizards.

These concerts form part of OCM’s education and outreach programme, presented in collaboration with Artscape and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
