Rachel Ries / Jack Harris / Megan Henwood @ Old Fire Station, Oxford
Tuesday 13 May 2014, 7:45 pm - 11:00 pm
Raised by Mennonites in the American Mid-West, via the African sub-continent and countless days on the road all over the world, Rachel Ries brings a wealth of experience to bear upon her literate, bittersweet songs. One of the most exciting young songwriters currently emerging from the US Folk scene, Rachel’s live show is a riveting mix of narrative and candour, delivered in one of the finest, most flexible voices you’re ever likely to hear.
Jack Harris’s current record, The Flame And The Pelican, was voted number five in The Telegraph’s Folk/Roots albums of 2012, and he has been described by Anais Mitchell as “a priest of song”.
Megan Henwood won the BBC’s Young Folk Musician of the Year award in 2009, aged just 20. Since then, her album Making Waves has received astounding reviews from the national press, hailed by Uncut magazine as “a bewitching set of songs… which Ray Davies or Chris Difford would be proud of”, and “A generational call to abandon apathy” by Q magazine.
