A huge 12-piece collective based in Leeds/London, and with two members based here in Oxford, Nubiyan Twist exude global groove-driven music, taking in soundsystem culture and jazz improvisation. A five-part horn section sits alongside turntablist scratching and dub FX with a kickin’ rhythm section. The band are a culmination of musicians, DJs and producers which gives the sound a neo-soul flavour, with key influences taken from King Tubby, Fela Kuti, J Dilla and Herbie Hancock. In their three year life they have supported De La Soul, Quantic, Hot 8 Brass and DJ Vadim.
