Julian came to the attention of the jazz press when he joined the seminal big band Loose Tubes in the 1980s – a band that is getting together again this year for dates at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s. Aside from running his own quartets and releasing a number of extremely listenable albums, he has worked with the likes of the late Stan Tracey, Jimmy Witherspoon and Kirk Lightsey, one of the unsung American jazz pianists of the recent past.
