Following glowing reviews for their album Storymap including five stars from the BBC Music magazine, Éamonn Coyne and Kris Drever are heading out on tour.
Songlines described Drever & Coyne’s début duo album Honk Toot Suite as “a breath of fresh air” with its “mutually attuned musicianship of the first order” and “its immense yet ultra‐supple sophistication”.
Éamonn and Kris met through the vibrant Edinburgh music scene yet neither are from Edinburgh, Éamonn is from Ireland and Kris from Orkney. They first played together about eight years ago and since then have performed and toured together augmenting the busy schedules they have separately with other bands and musicians.
The new album Storymap was recorded in Scotland in late 2012 and was produced and mixed by both Kris and Éamonn along with Mattie Foulds and the album features a host of musical friends such as Eliza Carthy, Simon Bradley, Megan Henderson, Calum McIntyre, Nico Bruce, Éamonn Nugent and Alan Kelly (of the Eddi Reader Band). The uniquely talented Éamonn Coyne dazzles on both the banjo and tenor guitar and the highly rated, award‐winning vocalist Kris Drever arranges the songs, sings simply and disarmingly, and also plays the guitar and mandolin. The album features nine tracks including ‘Goat Walk’, ‘Isle Of France’, ‘May Morning Dew’ and the charming ‘Teddy Bears’ Picnic Jigs’.
