After a kick-off event that took place on Friday 27 July at the Port Mahon in Oxford, with Nairobi and Duchess, this year’s Oxjam Oxford Takeover event has just been announced. It’s an annual shindig that sees tons of venues and bands collaborating on musical fund-raising activities for Oxfam, and it’ll take place on Saturday 13 October across several venues in Oxford’s city centre, including Modern Art Oxford, the Purple Turtle, The Cellar and Turl Street Kitchen.
An impressive swathe of Oxford talent is confirmed to be taking part in the event. Freaky pop minstrels Fixers will be leading the charge, ably flanked by Dubwiser, Kill Murray, Secret Rivals, The Grinding Young, We Aeronauts, Family Machine, Black Hats, Grudle Bay, The Yarns, The Wooden Sky, Evening Hymns, Flights Of Helios, Cat Matador, ToLiesel, Empty White Circles, Robots With Souls, ArtClassSink, We Are Goose, Ragged Claws, Dropout and Ioneye. (Phew!) The shadowy art collective Blessing Force will also be running one of the venues for the event, although details of their line-up are yet to be announced.
Tickets for the multi-venue event have just gone on sale, and are available here – the ‘early bird’ price of £7 will get you in to all of the venues.
There’s more to come, too: the big shebang detailed above will be backed up with a series of in-store gigs that’ll be taking place at G&D’s and Truck Store on Cowley Road, as well as an epic rooftop show to take place at the monumental Saïd Business School.
It’s all good, and all for a good cause. Keep up with Oxjam news here and read up about Oxfam here.
