Stornoway (Wednesday 5 November @ Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford): The first of two very special hometown shows for Stornoway – the second being later in November; this one was added after it sold out very quickly indeed. Continuing a sly ascent to being one in the long line of ‘bands from Oxford that make in big’, Stornoway should be warmly received at this show.
AUDIOSCOPE14 (Saturday 8 November @ The Jericho Tavern, Oxford): Gig of the year, for sure! This year’s AUDIOSCOPE festival is jam-packed with outstanding stuff – from the super-influential Silver Apples, to the super-popular Public Service Broadcasting, with all kinds of super stuff in between including The Telescopes, The Neon Violets, Kid Kin and Matt Elliott. And all raising money for Shelter. And sold out weeks in advance, too!
Royal Blood / Turbowolf (Tuesday 11 November @ O2 Academy, Oxford): ‘One of those acts that’s been getting all of the column inches lately, part one’… the Royal Blood album is actually pretty good, you know. Their O2 Academy show has been sold out for weeks now, obviously.
Slow Down Molasses / We Aeronauts / Robot Swans (Tuesday 11 November @ The Wheatsheaf, Oxford): A cracking alterno-indie-pop line-up here, with We Aeronauts and Robot Swans bringing the sweetness Oxford-style, in support of Slow Down Molasses with their awkwardly-but-descriptively-monikered ‘shoegaze pop’.
La Roux / Meanwhile (Saturday 15 November @ O2 Academy, Oxford): ‘One of those acts that’s been getting all of the column inches lately, part two’… La Roux’s return to Oxford is eagerly-awaited, it says here. Hmm.
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
