MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 6 October 2014–19 October 2014

Duotone / Reichenbach Falls / Rebecca Cullen (Tuesday 7 October @ Old Fire Station, Oxford): A very refined line-up at this first anniversary gig for promoters The Listening Room. Several shades of folk/country/Americana-type-thing, in a reaaaaally nice venue.

Peter Andre (Thursday 9 October @ New Theatre, Oxford): Peter Andre is playing in Oxford. Peter Andre.

Delia Darlings (Thursday 9 October @ The North Wall, Oxford): More interestingly, this event will see Manchester collective Delia Darlings paying tribute to the work and music of BBC Radiophonic Workshop legend Delia Derbyshire.

Beta Blocker And The Body Clock / Kone / Limbo Kids @ Modern Art Oxford, Oxford: The first in a short run of gigs run by Blessing Force at Modern Art Oxford; each will feature top-notch music, film screenings (at this one, a showing of the Modest Mouse documentary The Crowded Lonesome West), and a fanzine fair.

Oxjam in the round: Loud Mountains / Billy T’rivers and more (Friday 10 October @ St Aldates Tavern, Oxford): This looks like fun, and for a good cause too. Waltz In The Shallow End, Jordan O’Shea’s latest musical project (as featured in the soundtrack of his recently-screened first movie), as well as ukulele orchestra Ohuki, country/blues from Billy T’rivers and Loud Mountains, previously known as Empty White Circles. They’re all playing totally unplugged in the centre of St Aldates Tavern. Nerve-wracking for them, perhaps, but fine listening for the audience!

Alexis Taylor (Wednesday 15 October @ The Bullingdon, Oxford): Rescheduled from earlier in the year, a solo show from the Hot Chip frontman. Expect cheeky electronica-esque pop music.

The Orb (Thursday 16 October @ O2 Academy 2, Oxford): Dig out your old-school glowsticks and ‘herbal’ ciggies for some classical ambient techno. The Orb are celebrating the 25-ish years that’ve passed since 1988’s frenzy of acid house.

Eagulls / Bad Breeding / Cassels (Saturday 18 October @ The Jericho Tavern, Oxford): Some cutting-edge new music here with three samples of what’s hip and what’s new in noisy independent music.

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
