MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 15 September 2014–28 September 2014

DZ Deathrays / Beta Blocker & The Body Clock / Mother Corona (Monday 15 September @ O2 Academy 2, Oxford): Noisy and poppy Australian two-piece DZ Deathrays pulled off a killer show on the Barn stage at Truck festival earlier this year, and will no doubt do the same at the O2 Academy 2. Touring in support of new album Black Rat, they’ve got some ace local support from Beta Blocker & The Body Clock and Mother Corona.

Overlord / Black Juju / Francis Pugh & The Whisky Singers (Saturday 20 September @ The Wheatsheaf, Oxford): Promoter Gappy Tooth brings an eclectic mix, as usual, to their monthly bash. This time, powerful prog-tinged metal from Overlord, sleazy garage rock from Black Juju and whisky-literate Americana from Francis Pugh and his merry band.

Susanna Starling (Thursday 25 September @ Warneford Chapel, Oxford): Oxford Contemporary Music (OCM) always put on interesting music, and this show of theirs looks like a good one. “Susanna Starling sings her own original material plus unique interpretations of English folk and vintage jazz/cabaret”, apparently, using not much more than voice and double bass, and assistance from a couple of chums. Interesting venue, too!

OxfordOxford (Friday 26 September–Sunday 28 September @ South Park, Oxford): OxfordOxford is a three-day extravaganza debuting this year. On the Friday, there are films being screened, on the Saturday a fine selection of music including Klaxons, Gaz Coombes, Tunng, Pixel Fix and Flights Of Helios. On the Sunday it’s a (free) ‘community day’ with lots of food, drink and local charities and community groups to check out, and music programmed by Audioscope and Sofar Sounds.

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
