MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 28 July 2014-10 August 2014

‘Happiness’ (Wednesday 30 July @ The Library, Oxford): The inventive folk of Bear On A Bicycle have decided to celebrate having a good month by putting on a free gig at this cosy Cowley Road venue. Along with different strands of electronica from Kid Kin and [daisybeard], they also promise a ‘special secret headliner’. Who’s it gonna be, eh? Only one way to find out…

PADDOX (Friday 1 August @ OVADA Warehouse, Oxford): The new project from a member of Trophy Wife, PADDOX make melodically rich, multi-layered pulsating ambience. They’ll perform their debut Aphrodisiaque #001 in full at this show, in amongst the artwork that makes up the OVADA exhibition Chimerical Waypoints.

Death Of Hifi video shoot (Sunday 3 August @ Fat Lil’s, Witney): If you’re at a loose end and want to retreat to your raver youth, Death of Hifi are shooting a video for their forthcoming single ‘Lazarus’, and welcome extras to take part. They’re aiming to recreate an early 90s rave at Fat Lil’s, and you can be a part of it!

Wilderness festival (Thursday 7 August-Sunday 10 August @ Cornbury Park): At one end of the festival spectrum this weekend is Wilderness, the lush and refined gathering of music, art, theatre and food. Music-wise it offers Metronomy, Burt Bacharach and a lot more; it’s likely to be full of surprising spectacle.

Supernormal (Friday 8 August-Sunday 10 August @ Braziers Park, Ipsden): At the other end of the spectrum is Supernormal, a solidly-leftfield few days of freakish fun. The line-up includes weird-music greats like Gnod, Henry Blacker and Teeth Of The Sea; it’s an event that’ll reward broad minds.

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
