Saint’n’Greavsie-style commentary

So well done Papa Waigos Allstars on winning the first of what is now set to become an annual fixture in the Oxford music (and football) calendar. Who are Papa Waigos Allstars, you may ask? A footie supergroup of sorts, headed up by BBC Introducing in Oxford’s Sam King, and featuring local DJ duo Wonky Carton and Calling All Enthusiasts promoter Ollie Castell.

They win a warm glow of satisfaction at helping to raise £250 with the day’s event, which has been donated to Audioscope and The Gatehouse, meaning it will contribute to helping homeless and badly-housed people in Oxford and beyond.

There’s a great selection of photographs of the day now up on the MusicInOxford.co.uk Facebook page, where you can view gangly indie-kid legs galore. If you want one, you can download a spreadsheet with all of the results and stats here.

Not a band! What’s to stop Thom Yorke starting a team and getting his celebrity footballing mates along?!!!!

  • gappy

I know that I know nothing about football, being a middle class ponce, but how come The Dreaming Spires got to the final with Played 1, Drew 1, and Flights of Helios didn’t with Played 2, Won 1, Drew 1?

Did they have to go in for their tea or something?

  • James Pindrop

Robert- I’d welcome mr yorke and his celebrity friends with open arms. without combined sides we wouldn’t have had a tournament!

Richard- it’s because the Quickfix 0-2 Flights of Helios game was actually the 3rd place playoff, the other two games were semi finals and Papa Waigos/Dreaming Spires won through on penalties.

Ah, that makes sense.  Simon’s fault for sloppy stats, then!

  • Simon Minter

Apologies, my fault – I don’t understand football, I thought I was sharing the stats correctly, honest guv. It’s only a game, after all…

  • James Pindrop

probably my fault for poor spreadsheet upkeep!

i’m looking forward to next year already!
