Beatles Day celebrations with Oxford bands

This Friday, 5 October, has been named Beatles Day by the BBC, who will be marking the fifty year anniversary of the band’s first top twenty hit, ‘Love Me Do’ with a series of programmes and features on many BBC radio stations.

The Oxford involvement will take the form of Beatles-related coverage throughout the day on BBC Radio Oxford, and five Oxford bands – Bug Prentice, Fixers, The Dreaming Spires, Toliesel and We Aeronauts – have recorded exclusive cover versions of Beatles tracks. The five tracks, which are being kept secret until Friday, will be played on a variety of shows, and band members will also be interviewed on the show to talk about the Beatles and their influence.

The songs will also be available through iTunes at a later date, to raise money for this year’s Children In Need.

If you need your Beatlesometer topped up before Friday, here’s a previously-recorded track – not the one being debuted on Friday – from the aforementioned Bug Prentice. ‘I’m So Tired’ originally featured on The Beatles, aka ‘The White Album’.
