DESCRIPTION:Alexander The Great: A Folk Operetta is an audio-visual odyssey with live music by Huck & The Xander Band. Inspired by the ground-breaking concert films of the 1980s\, the show takes its cues from Pink Floyd\, Talking Heads and Tom Waits.\nHumphrey ‘Huck’ Astley is an Oxford-based poet-singer-songwriter who cut his teeth fronting Huck & The Handsome Fee. Short-lived but much-loved\, the band’s anarchic six-week US tour would inspire Alexander the Great\, which he describes as "a queer runaway myth of three young friends and their fall from grace in Dixie".\nChannelling classic literature and mythology through a postmodern view of the South\, the operetta explores country-folk and jazz-blues – just as its protagonist explores Texas and Louisiana – in a raucous and outrageous rites of passage\, exploring youth\, sex\, drugs\, gods and monsters.\nMore information at www.oldfirestation.org.uk/event/alexander-the-great
