DESCRIPTION:This year’s Carnival Spectacular at the UPP will present a set from Balloon Ascents followed by a 35mm screening of This Is Spinal Tap\, to help raise funds for this year's Cowley Road Carnival.\nThis Is Spinal Tap is the ultimate cult film that perfectly parodies the rock'n'roll business. Following an ageing British rock group that has a great line in dead drummers\, this hilarious satire contains some of the funniest moments ever put on celluloid\, including the amplifier that goes to 11 and the diminutive Stonehenge.\nBalloon Ascents are a five-piece alt-rock band from Oxford. Playing misty-eyed melancholia over psychedelic math beats\, Balloon Ascents offer a truly unique glimpse into Oxford's musical melting pot\, meshing Radiohead's intelligent electro-rock with Stornoway's wanderlust folk-pop. Having played together since the age of thirteen\, the band has recently emerged from their home-built studio to much acclaim.\nThere will also be raffle prizes and a fancy dress competition to make this a special evening in a very good cause - helping Cowley Road Carnival take to the street on 5 July.\nMore information at www.cowleyroadcarnival.co.uk
