SUMMARY:Jonny Greenwood & London Contemporary Orchestra Soloists @ St John The Evangelist\, Church
DESCRIPTION:Following sell-out London shows and a collaboration with Boiler Room at Manchester’s Albert Hall\, Radiohead guitarist and acclaimed composer Jonny Greenwood is once again joining forces with the London Contemporary Orchestra for an intimate\, specially curated\, one-off Oxford performance of new\, previously unheard material.\nGreenwood will perform on electric guitar\, tanpura and ondes Martenot\, together with the acclaimed LCO Soloists to create a unique ensemble of rarely heard colours and combinations. The ondes Martenot is particularly unusual\, having gone out of production in 1988\, and – despite its hauntingly beautiful sound – is only played by a handful of musicians throughout the world.\nIn addition to new material\, the performance will showcase music from Greenwood’s film scores\, including the Academy Award-winning There Will Be Blood\, The Master and Norwegian Wood. The programme will also feature works by Xenakis\, Purcell\, Messiaen and the LCO’s Composer-in-Association Edmund Finnis.\nThe centrepiece of the evening will see Greenwood performing Steve Reich’s seminal solo guitar work\n'Electric Counterpoint'\, recently recorded by Greenwood for Nonesuch’s Radio Rewrite release.\nMore information at www.lcorchestra.co.uk. Tickets on sale from 21 November 2014.

SUMMARY:Joe Tong (Piano) - Fantasias: Mozart\, Chopin\, Schubert\, Schumann @ Jacqueline du Pré Music Building\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:\nMozart: C minor Fantasy\, KV475\nChopin: Fantasy in F minor\, Op. 49\nSchubert: ‘Wanderer’ Fantasy\, D760\nSchumann: Fantasie in C major\, Op. 17\n\nThe award-winning British pianist Joseph Tong returns to Oxford with an enticing programme of Fantasias\, exploring the development of a form whose roots lie in the art of improvisation.
