Play. album is a vocalese pilgrimage\, inspired by one of the genre’s often-forgotten originators\, King Pleasure. Vocalese is a style of jazz where a vocalist sings a solo that was once improvised\, but with lyrics to create a new song. To add a new element to this genre\, Robin uniquely combines voice and piano as he plays\, as well as sings\, the vocalese lines in unison. He has also added his own original lyrics to other solos\, creating new vocalese tunes.\nLiving vocalese legend\, Jon Hendricks\, still gigging globally in his 90s\, gave Robin’s album the seal of approval: "Well done\, well sung!.
