SUMMARY:Iron Knights / Sanity Loss @ The Cellar\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Iron Knights have been a fixture of the UK metal scene for some time now\, albeit in a different form to what they are now. After a European support tour with Vicious Rumors in spring 2013\, the lineup and direction changed dramatically into what the band are today. From the original Iron Knights\, bassist Paul ‘Beam’ Robbie and drummer Larry Paterson were the sole survivors. They were both members of Metalhead and Chokehold\, after which Larry spent years with former Iron Maiden's Blaze Bailey.\nMore information at www.cellaroxford.co.uk/event/oxrox-iron-knights

SUMMARY:Oxjam Oxford launch with My Grey Horse / Loud Mountains / Jordan O'Shea @ The Jericho Tavern\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Oxjam Oxford have announced the details for this years 2014 launch gig. The gig is the first in a month-long series of events leading up to their main takeover on Saturday 18 October.\nMy Grey Horse: Fresh from the road of their UK tour to promote their debut album I Still Don’t Understand and with their layered four-part harmonies\, swirling guitars and sweeping melodies\, My Grey Horse have casually drawn comparisons to The Shins\, Grandaddy\, and Pavement\, yet all agree that they’re hard to place.\nLoud Mountains: A five-piece Americana band\, originally formed by American born brothers Kevin and Sean Duggan. Now based in Oxford\, the band was completed by the arrival of British members Calum To\, Tom Gill\, and Ricky Eastwood. With close harmonies\, infectious guitar riffs and toe tapping rhythms\, Loud Mountains offers Americana with a twist\, plenty of volume and more pop-hooks than you could shake a stick at.\nJordan O'Shea: A young melancholic singer-songwriter\, who according to the BBC "writes music you can get lost to". O’Shea released his first EP Her Name Was _French Cinema_ in August 2012\, and shortly followed this with his critically acclaimed debut album Desperation\, My Dear in January 2013. After supporting acts such as Sweet Baboo\, Rachel Sermanni\, and Luke Sital-Singh\, O’Shea was compared to world-renowned acts such as Bon Iver and City and Colour\, whilst being announced as The Huffington Post’s ‘Act of the Week’\, and declared as a ‘multi- media renaissance man’ by MusicInOxford.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/739533332785948

SUMMARY:Overlord / Black Juju / Francis Pugh & The Whisky Singers @ The Wheatsheaf\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Overlord play a fresh\, modern take on the dark\, progressive rock/early metal bands of the 1970s\, informed as much by modern thrash/groove metal as they are by traditional blues. Through these myriad influences\, the band intends to create music that can be enjoyed and appreciated by any fan of heavy music – they also have a very healthy respect for early Sabbath.\nBlack Juju are a greasy\, sleazy furball of garage rock from Aylesbury\, promising “noise\, chaos and energy” in a Stooges-meets-Cramps style. A stripped out psychedelic speedball of noise and fury that fuses resolutely raw and dirty grunge with classic blues sounds.\nThe Whisky Singers are a sextet built around fictional Francis Pugh (so\, perhaps they’re really a septet?)\, playing warm yet intricate Americana\, folk and country\, with a cheeky glint in its eye.\nTickets available from www.wegottickets.com/event/282814
