SUMMARY:Flights Of Helios / The August List / Sier Pin Sky / Ben Walker / Joshua Gilbert @ Port Mahon\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:The Tertium Quid Christmas party! Celebrating the end of the year and just over a year of TQ gigs.\nFlights Of Helios: Huge soundscapes\, endless layers\, and soaring vocal harmonies with folk inflections. Their sound is as big as the galactic images that back their performances.\nThe August List: Hailing from Dorset and now residing in a small barn perched on a hill in Oxfordshire\, The August List are a boy/girl two-piece who play 'backwards country/porch folk' with a startling rock'n'roll attitude.\nSier Pin Sky: Sier Pin Sky are a folktronica duo with an epic EP under their belt. The orchestral\, folk inspired\, electronically lathered\, Upon The Cusp has been received incredibly so far.\nBen Walker: The keys man in glam odd-pop group Candy Says\, born from the ashes of Little Fish\, and a tongue-in-cheek acoustic troubadour whose quips and 12-second songs (yes 12 seconds) have become part of the fabric of the Oxford music scene.\nJoshua Gilbert: He sings\, plays guitar\, stomps a bass-drum and blows harmonica all at once. Intense and emotional folk songs influenced by the classics.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/1413544315546741. Tickets available from www.wegottickets.com/event/249111

SUMMARY:Place Above / Jim Garrard / Beaver Fuel @ The Wheatsheaf\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Place Above formed in 2003 having met each other at school\, and set Oxford’s local scene alight with their energetic\, chaotic and tongue-in-cheek live performances of songs about girls who ignore you\, and standing too close to the PA at gigs. Their sound was influenced by the emo post-punk starlets of their day: Hundred Reasons\, Hell is For Heroes\, Feeder\, At The Drive In\, etc. They worked their way up from playing their first ever gig in a barn in Marcham\, to headlining The Oxford Zodiac at the tender age of 17. Seven years after parting ways to go off to university\, Place Above reformed last Christmas and played to a sell-out crowd at a very sweaty Port Mahon. On 22 December 2013\, Place Above are back for one very last lap of honour to celebrate 10 years since their inception as a band at The Wheatsheaf.\nSupport comes from Bristol-based Oxfordian Jim Garrard (formerly of Oxford ska-punk-funk outfit Retro Fire) – he plays acoustic jams with a ska-tinged Americana edge (think Sublime meets Lambchop). Also on the bill are cheeky pop-punk trio Beaver Fuel with their own brand of toilet-humour laden pop-punk savagery.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/671331162898174.
