SUMMARY:Barnes\, Cook & Jefferies @ Oxford Wine Café\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Yes – it sounds like a firm of solicitors but there’s nothing straight up and down about this ensemble of fine musicians. Will Barnes is a session player of repute; Jez Cook will already be known to many throughout the UK as one of the most in demand guitarists across the UK jazz scene and Paul Jefferies has the peppy\, up-tempo attack you’d expect from one of the busiest bassists around. They tell us to expect a pot-pourri of music with strong nods to hot-club and the music of Django.\nMore information at oxfordwinecafe.co.uk/jazz

SUMMARY:Double Trio: Noszferatu vs Schlippenbach Trio @ The North Wall\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Expect deeply felt virtuosic playing - from driving rhythms to purring saxes.\nThere are few jazz groups who can claim a heritage as long as Schlippenbach Trio. Formed in 1970\, they are one of the longest running jazz trios in the world. Schlippenbach Trio are: Evan Parker (saxes)\, "one of jazz music's greatest living instrumentalists" (The Times)\, Paul Lovens (drums)\, who performed in an early incarnation of Kraftwerk and became part of the backbone of European Jazz\, and Alexander von Schlippenbach (piano) who combines classical and jazz influences and is one of Europe’s premier jazz bandleaders.\nNoszferatu are one of the most versatile new music groups in the UK; Finn Peters (saxes\, flutes)\, winner of the Radio 1 Worldwide awards in 2009\, has been profiled by Gilles Peterson and Mr Scruff. Ivo de Greef (piano) brings a love of tango to the project. Damien Harron (drums & percussion) is a prolific performer and composer.\nBoth trios will perform separately and combine in specially commissioned works by award winning Polish composer Hanna Kulenty\, Oxfordshire–based composer Joe Cutler\, and Hans Koller.\nMore information at www.ocmevents.org/ocm/events/doubletrio
