DESCRIPTION:Womanity is an all-day festival\, which aims to provide a forum for young people of all genders. The aim is to come together to create\, learn and discuss gender-based issues\, which affect their day-to-day lives.\nThe Young Women’s Music Project’s director Zahra Tehrani has been working closely with a group of girls over a period of years. The idea for Womanity emerged from a series of discussions about their hopes and aspirations. Whilst the focus of the project is to empower young women through music\, and address issues of the underrepresentation of women as a whole\, the event branches out from these ideas\, to explore a wider selection of cultural issues. Young Women’s Music Project has received an Oxford County Council grant\, from the Positive Activities Fund\, to stage an event that addresses the concerns and interests of not only the members of the group\, but their friends and peers.\nThe day will consist of workshops\, lectures\, sessions and a panel discussion. The evening will host live art\, local crafts\, and a frock swap\, alongside live music from diverse female musicians. Subject matters as varied as creativity and self-destruction\, blogging\, self-defence\, sexual violence\, vocal looping and women in hip hop\, will be covered. The open-panel discussion is centered on what feminism means today to young people\, with a majority of questions being submitted from schools around the county.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/181444698713319. DESCRIPTION:Tom Williams\, from Tom Williams and the Boat\, will kick off the first in a new series of specially curated nights at The Cellar.\nMixtape is where a special guest musician is invited to play and curate an evening of music that they love\, are inspired by or just simply want us to enjoy. These can include well known artists right through to unknowns\, and not all have to be music.\nTom Williams and the Boat are currently working on their third full-length release for Moshi Moshi\, due in early 2014. This gig will be a good opportunity to hear new material\, and will include songs from past albums\, songs from future albums\, and songs that wouldn't fit on either.\nTom Williams explains his musical choices: "Having spent three years in Oxford\, and many a night in The Cellar\, I made an effort to invite my most talented friends to play\, in what evercurrent and fascinating guise they happen to be.
