SUMMARY:PRM's Special Talk: Pigeon Whistles @ Pitt Rivers Museum\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Nathaniel Mann is Pitt Rivers Museum & OCM's Embedded Artist in Residence. Whilst spending time at the Museum his attention was drawn by the collection of Chinese pigeon whistles. These small flutes are borne on the birds' tails during flight\, creating haunting tones\, which trace across the sky. What followed was a six-month odyssey into the world of UK pigeon fanciers and an eventual musical collaboration with 'Pigeon Pete' Petravicius and his flock of Birmingham Roller pigeons.\nNathaniel & Pigeon Pete are wonderful characters\, full of charisma and are guaranteed to make you think again about the humble pigeon. They will present their Pigeon Whistles project and explain their research through stories\, film and song.\nMore information at www.prm.ox.ac.uk/spotlights.html

SUMMARY:Another Us @ The Rotunda\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:An attempt to put on an event in a comfortable\, friendly and unique space\, with a focus on original live performance.\nThe whole event is primarily electronic\, and as live as is possible. And the highest signal to noise ratio possible\, with a properly engineered sound system and special venue. Some acts are performing independently and about half will be set up permanently and do mixed collaborations. Cary Grace is the manufacturer of Wiard Synthesizers and is a very talented vocalist. Gonzo and Lowdjo are from the label Discrepant and will be doing collages of spoken words\, environmental sounds\, some pieces of discovered local music\, as well as their own pieces and sounds to go with it. Glossata is a local ambient/techno artist making extremely beautiful melancholic and expressive music. Tom Ellis doesn't actually stop making music\, interested in fluid\, warm cerebral rhythms. Reflektor makes somewhere between industrial and celestial sounding techno. Mono-Poly is a very very talented modular synthesizer player\, whose day job is a process operator in an industrial plant and his method of creating synthesizer patches uses the same pool of skills\, making highly organised spontaneous networks of connections to make process driven self sustaining patches. Umcorps makes delicate\, haunting vocal like drones. Lee Riley will be bringing some guitar drones and low frequencies to the mix. Zeke Clough has been involved with Skull Disco and Woe to the Septic Heart\, and will be doing a live drawing on a big canvas. Vesica Pisces will be providing some more visuals. Diffuse is local and the only person stupid enough to spend this much time on something that won't provide any income.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/660984127248342
