SUMMARY:The Epstein / The Dreaming Spires / Jordan O'Shea @ St Albans Church\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:The Epstein album launch party. One of Oxford's finest and most consistently excellent bands are launching their eagerly anticipated album Murmurations.\nThe Epstein started life back in 2006 when singer/songwriter Olly Wills started playing open mic nights with guitarist Jon Berry under the name The Epstein in the back rooms of pubs in Oxford and London. The band gradually developed into a fully fledged country rock band and recorded their debut album The Last of The Charanguistas (2008) which went on to win the accolade of Editors Choice in Rolling Stone magazine and led the band to a prime slot on the acoustic stage at Glastonbury Festival. Since then the line up of the band has evolved to include producer and keyboard player Sebastian Reynolds and they have grown from being a traditional\, roots Americana band to incorporate ambient electronica\, Morricone style orchestral backings and sweeping\, windswept\, widescreen blues. The Epstein strike a perfect balance between pop songwriting and rich\, innovative arrangements. The current line up of the band has been completed by the addition of highly respected Oxford based rhythm section Humphrey Astley (bass) and Tommy Longfellow (drums).\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/606603112702702. SUMMARY:Deerhoof / Big Cosmos / Trust Fund @ The Cellar\, Oxford
DESCRIPTION:Deerhoof: Pitchfork went so far as to label Deerhoof as "the best band in the world". The New York Times described them as "one of the most original rock bands to have come along in the last decade". From their humble beginnings as an obscure San Francisco noise act\, they've become one of indie music's most influential bands with their ecstatic and unruly take on pop. Deerhoof has released 11 self-produced albums and continues to tour the world frequently. The members of Deerhoof are Satomi Matsuzaki\, John Dieterich\, Ed Rodriguez and Greg Saunier.\nBig Cosmos: Glimmering reverb-laden future-pop gems\, Big Cosmos invent a mixture of late 80s British guitar music of the likes of Blue Nile\, Cocteau Twins\, and The Cure\, sensitively incorporating up-to-date synths and atmospherics (think Radio Department\, M83).\nTrust Fund: Ceaselessly inventive\, tender and individual; recalling the lo-fi moments of Mercury Rev\, John Maus\, and Animal Collective\, but with a delicate 80s-tinged pop sensibility of its own that soulfully prevents any influences feeling like they’re casting a shadow over them.\nPlus DJs (Chad Valley / Nzca Lines / Coloureds / Zenshit) until 3.00 am and visuals from SON.\nMore information at www.facebook.com/events/520436081349508.
