Blue Zoo 03/04/14 poster

Blue Zoo emerged from the post-punk blitz scene that defined the early 80s, brandishing their glam influences (and eyeliner) with pride and sharing a uniquely eclectic new wave/pop repertoire. A live act full of showmanship and brash-flash attitude saw them as forerunners to a number of bands, including Suede, Mansun and Republica in the 90’s. ‘Cry Boy Cry’ reached number thirteen in the UK charts, resulting in two appearances on Top Of The Pops. In 2010, original members Andy O, Mike Ansell and Mickey Sparrow reformed Blue Zoo, with Tom E. Morrison and Duncan Quigley completing the line up in 2013.

With their creative roots in the same area of Germany as bands such as Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Rammstein and 12 Drummers Drumming, the UK-produced German electro-rock collective Plexiphones have blended euphonic synth sounds with rock guitars and expressive vocals to create a contemporary style of their own.

A travelling minstrel who has played in all sorts of weird and wonderful locations, from Russian music clubs on the Black Sea to Sicilian wine bars and Polish secondary schools, son of an ex-pro cyclist Flavio Zappi, Daniel Zappi‘s sound defies any clear genre. His music ranges from pop-rock anthems to bossa nova story-songs, from reggae, folk and electronica to simply-arranged piano and acoustic guitar ballads, with lyrics that speak about life’s ups and downs and anything in between.
